Meet Our Animal Ambassadors
Get ready to meet three extraordinary creatures from around the world!
From the forests of Madagascar to the deserts of North America and the tropical rainforests of Central America, each of our animal ambassadors has an incredible story to tell.
Discover their unique adaptations, explore their important roles in nature, and experience the fascinating world of invertebrates up close.
Small creatures. Big discoveries. Unforgettable encounters.
Madagascar Hissing Cockroach
Meet one of Madagascar's most fascinating forest-floor inhabitants!
Madagascar hissing cockroaches are wingless insects that use specialized breathing openings called spiracles to produce their famous hissing sounds. These remarkable decomposers help recycle nutrients throughout their ecosystems.
During Creature Encounters, discover their unique adaptations, learn why cockroaches are important to nature, and enjoy the opportunity for supervised hands-on interaction.
Blue Death-Feighing Beetle
Meet one of the desert's most remarkable survivors!
Blue death-feigning beetles (Asbolus verrucosus) are native to the deserts of the southwestern United States and northern Mexico. Their distinctive powder-blue coating helps protect them from the harsh desert environment.
When threatened, these fascinating beetles can play dead, remaining completely still to discourage predators.
During Creature Encounters, discover their incredible survival adaptations, explore the importance of desert ecosystems, and observe these extraordinary beetles up close.
Central American Tailless Whip Scorpion
Meet one of the rainforest's most extraordinary nocturnal hunters!
Despite their intimidating appearance, tailless whip scorpions are neither true scorpions nor venomous. These fascinating arachnids use exceptionally long, antenna-like sensory legs to navigate their surroundings in darkness.
Their powerful, spiny pedipalps help them capture prey, while their flattened bodies allow them to hide in narrow spaces beneath bark and among rainforest vegetation.
During Creature Encounters, discover how these remarkable predators survive, explore their unique adaptations, and observe this incredible arachnid safely up close.
Special experience: Observation only. This animal is not available for handling.
